Looking for a Verifiable alternative?
Probably not, if you are shopping for what they sell. These are two different products that both contain the word “verification”.
The concession first
Verifiable describes itself as an NCQA-certified CVO with credentialing automation software, provider enrollment and ongoing monitoring. If what you need is a credentials verification organization - because a payer requires delegated credentialing, or because your accreditation depends on NCQA-compliant primary source verification files - then you need a CVO. We are not one, and no API is.
What each product actually is
| Credentialing platform / CVO | License verification API | |
|---|---|---|
| Unit sold | A workflow, and often a service performed for you | An HTTP request |
| Who operates it | Their team plus your credentialing staff | Your engineers, inside your product |
| Scope | Licensure, DEA, education, work history, sanctions, enrollment, committee files | State licensure, plus NPI cross-reference and federal exclusion screening |
| Buying motion | Demo and sales call - no pricing published as of August 16, 2026 | Sign up, published prices, free tier |
| Accreditation standing | NCQA-certified CVO | Not a CVO. A data source you cite, not a delegate |
Verifiable's side of this table reflects only what they publish on their own site, checked August 16, 2026. They do publish developer API documentation, so the API-vs-platform line is about what the products are for, not about whether they have one. If anything here has changed or is unfair, tell us and we will correct it.
When the API is the right shape
You are not credentialing physicians for a health plan. You are a marketplace, a staffing platform or a compliance team, and you need to know whether a license is currently valid - across your own roster, at your own cadence, without a human in the loop.
- One request returns status, expiry, holder name and a
provenanceblock naming the source file, when it was published and when we retrieved it. - Batches up to 25,000 items, and monitors that push a signed webhook when a status changes - see bulk verification.
- 22,364,893 roster records across 31 states, with the coverage matrix and methodology published so you can check us before you buy.
- $0 to $349 a month, on the pricing page, with no call.
Where we are honestly weaker
- Coverage is partial and we say which parts. 31 states, not fifty. An uncovered state returns
state_not_coveredrather than a guess. - Licensure only. No DEA, education, work history or malpractice history. A credentialing file needs all of those.
- No service layer. Nobody chases a board on your behalf, assembles a committee packet, or signs a delegation agreement.
- We are small. If procurement needs a SOC 2 report and an enterprise MSA today, ask us before you plan around it.
They are not mutually exclusive
The common pattern is both: a CVO for the credentialing file that has to satisfy an auditor, and an API for the continuous, cheap, machine-readable check that runs between credentialing cycles - the one that tells you in October that a license lapsed, rather than at the next recredentialing in eighteen months. Those are different jobs and neither replaces the other.
The free tier includes 500 verifications a month and every data feature, so you can test against your own roster before deciding anything. API reference · For credentialing teams · Pricing
